Simple DSLR Control for Underwater & Watersports Photography

The Nimar Base Water Sports Housing with Pistol Grip provides Nikon D7100 and D7200 photographers with a straightforward way to take their DSLR into and around the water.

Rather than surrounding the camera with a large number of mechanical controls, Nimar keeps this housing intentionally simple. The included two-button pistol grip gives you direct access to autofocus and shutter release, allowing the camera to be aimed and fired with one hand.

This makes the NID7100WB particularly interesting for photographers shooting surfing, watersports, snorkeling, pools, and other situations where quick camera positioning is more important than changing settings constantly.

Two-Button Pistol Grip

The pistol grip is what separates this housing from a more traditional basic water housing.

Mechanical push buttons provide access to both:

Autofocus – activate focus before taking the photograph.

Shutter Release – capture the image once focus and composition are ready.

The pistol-style configuration is designed to make one-handed aiming and shooting easier while helping keep the camera stable.

Important Control Note

This is not a full-control underwater DSLR housing.

Apart from autofocus and shutter release, camera settings must be configured before installing the camera or set to an appropriate automatic mode. There are no housing controls for changing the remaining camera functions underwater.

For photographers who want to adjust aperture, shutter speed, ISO, white balance, or other camera functions throughout a dive, a full-control underwater housing would be a better choice.

197 ft / 60 m Depth Rating

Despite its simplified watersports-oriented design, the NID7100WB carries a 197 ft / 60 m depth rating.

That makes it suitable for far more than surface use. Depending on your shooting requirements, the housing can be used for:

  • Scuba diving
  • Snorkeling
  • Freediving
  • Surf photography
  • Pool photography
  • Waterskiing
  • Boating and other watersports
  • Above/below split-style photography with an appropriate dome configuration

Durable Polycarbonate Construction

The housing body is manufactured from Bayer Makrolon polycarbonate, providing a combination of durability and corrosion resistance for use in marine environments.

The top, front, and sides feature Nimar's distinctive yellow finish, while the back remains clear.

That transparent back is especially useful because it lets you visually monitor the camera and inspect the main O-ring sealing area.

Four AISI 316 stainless-steel latches with safety clips securely close the housing.

Choose the Port for Your Lens

This housing does not include a lens port.

Instead, Nimar uses an interchangeable bayonet port system, allowing you to select a flat or dome port based on the Nikon lens you plan to use.

This is important because underwater optical performance depends heavily on matching the correct port to the lens.

Nimar lists port configurations for lenses including:

  • AF-DX Fisheye NIKKOR 10.5mm f/2.8G ED
  • AF Fisheye NIKKOR 16mm f/2.8D
  • AF-S DX NIKKOR 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED
  • AF-S DX NIKKOR 12-24mm f/4G IF-ED
  • AF-S DX NIKKOR 16-80mm f/2.8-4E ED VR
  • AF-S DX NIKKOR 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR
  • Several Nikon 18-55mm lenses
  • AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR
  • Nikon 60mm Micro lenses
  • Additional compatible Nikon lenses

Mozaik Tip: Don't choose the port based only on whether the lens physically fits. Dome and flat ports behave very differently underwater. Tell us which Nikon lens you plan to use and we can help determine the appropriate port configuration.

Add an External Strobe

The housing can also accept an optional 5-pin chrome-plated brass bulkhead, allowing compatible external strobes to be connected using electrical sync cords.

External lighting can make a dramatic difference underwater by restoring colors that are absorbed as you descend.

This also gives photographers a potential upgrade path if they want to move from a simple available-light setup to a more capable underwater photography system.

Who Is This Housing For?

The Nimar Base Water Sports Housing is best suited for photographers who:

  • Already own a Nikon D7100 or D7200
  • Want to use their DSLR around or underwater
  • Prefer simple operation
  • Want autofocus and shutter control from a pistol grip
  • Photograph surfing or other watersports
  • Shoot snorkeling, freediving, or scuba
  • Are comfortable configuring camera settings before entering the water
  • Want the flexibility to select a port based on their existing Nikon lens

It is less appropriate for photographers who need complete access to their Nikon's exposure and camera controls throughout a dive.
